For the love of God and all that's good in this world, please go see this film.
Okay, so that may sound a bit dramatic, but I'm really quite serious. "Once" is a rare breed of film that, in my opinion: a) seamlessly blends soundtrack and plot (it was hardly the typical "musical" in that way, where a scene puts reality on pause for a goofy interlude), b) produces such lovable, believable characters, c) does not fall back on sex between romantic leads to move the story along, and d) celebrates self control, self expression, and in the end, above all, selflessness (i.e. real love).
And e) the ending made me cry. Happy tears. (I freakin' LOVE when movies make me cry happy tears!)
Maybe it's the aspiring artist in me, maybe it's the formerly single mother in me, maybe I'm just a complete mush, I don't know, but this is definitely the best film I've seen in a long time.
And I have Netflix. I watch a lot of movies.
Promise me you'll go see it, and I'll shut up.
P.S.
Once on Netflix
Once on Blockbuster
Once on Amazon
P.P.S.
You might want to go ahead and buy the soundtrack too.
P.P.P.S.
If you don't like it, or you already saw it and you didn't like it, that's okay too. You're just crazy is all. : )
